Tour Plan

1
Day 1 - Arrival in Lisbon
Arrival in Lisbon and settling in the hotel

2
Day 2 - Transfer to Santiago do Cacem / Santiago de Cacem - Millfontes (35km – 400m elevation gain – 50% asphalt / 50% gravel)
Away from the coast, today's stage allows us to immerse ourselves in the rural and relaxed hinterland of the Alentejo. Horse farms and cork producers make up the landscape. The famous porco preto enjoys the acorns and shade of the Alentejo's vast cork forests. Halfway through this stage we reach the coast again near the picturesque blue-and-white coastal town of Porto Covo. With the coast on our right, we continue straight ahead for another 15 km, passing on sandy roads south along the coast. We pass by the small island “Ilha do Pessegueiro” and finally reach Vila Nova de Milfontes.
3
Day 3 - Milfontes - Odeceixe ( 65km – 850m elevation gain – 60/40 asphalt and sandroads)
Paved roads lead us through large berry and vegetable farms to the lonely Cabo Sardao lighthouse. Huge cliffs and beautiful beaches: the sandy scenic road to Zambujeira do Mar, the beaches of Zambujeira, Carvalhal and Azenhas do Mar are famous in the Costa Vicentina! Along the waterways we cross fields for a few kilometers, always with the option of heading to the paved road if you don't feel comfortable along the waterways. A somewhat bumpy road takes us down into the valley of the Seixe River. We finally cross the bridge that establishes the border with the Algarve region.
4
Day 4 - Odeceixe – Aljezur/Arrifana ( 39km – 600m elevation gain – 50/50 asphalt and gravel )
From the village of Odeceixe we head along the river valley to Praia de Odeceixe, one of Portugal's most beautiful beaches. At the mouth of the river we face two climbs and then pedal flat through fields and ancient water channels until we reach the Aljezur River valley at Praia de Amoreira. The stage is fairly short and the weather should be mostly good, the best conditions for a stay at this somewhat out-of-the-way beach. Following the quiet river valley for a while, we reach the historically significant town of Aljezur, crowned by the ruins of a 10th-century Moorish castle. Here it will be best to stop and recharge our batteries before the two toughest climbs of our journey: the steep ascent to the castle and then to Monte Clerigo. Once we reach the top, a quiet forest road with small ups and downs leads us to the remote villages of the Algarve.
5
Day 5 - Aljezur/Arrifana – Sagres (52km – 670m elevation gain – 50/50 asphalt and gravel)
The last stage of the Costa Vicentina awaits us with some highlights: after a long descent through typical hills, we find the coast again at Carrapateira. The circular trail atop the cliffs and the quiet valley behind is one of the most spectacular landscapes of this trip. One last steep climb and we soon reach Vila do Bispo, where only a few miles of sparse, windy scrubland separate us from the end of the old world: for centuries Cabo Sao Vincente was the last and first promontory sighted by any explorer. With the wind in our favor 20 minutes later we will be in Sagres; if the wind is against us there will still be a bit of a struggle!
6
Day 6 - Sagres - Lagos ( 40km – 800m elevation gain – mainly asphalt)
In Sagres, the western end of the Algarve, wind is an important factor. Depending on the wind direction, this can be an easy stage or a difficult challenge. A few hundred meters on the main road and we turn onto the old road to Vila do Bispo parallel to the national road. Short ups and downs define the landscape. Vila do Bispo, 10 km from Sagres, has a much more local feel than the tourist hotspot of Sagres and may invite you to stop before reaching the next hills of the Algarve. In the next 20 km to Lagos we will have countless climbs and descents. Many views and beautiful beaches make up for this effort. West of Lagos, the famous rock formations of Ponta da Piedade are the icing on the cake before reaching the historic center of Lagos.

Day 7 - The farewell day
After checking out, you can take a train to Faro airport, or you can request a private transfer from Sagres to Faro airport at an extra cost.
