Sintra Natural Park trekking
Get ready for an unforgettable trekking experience in Sintra Natural Park, a stunning natural oasis.

Sintra Natural Park trekking location:

Sintra is a charming Portuguese town located in the Serra de Sintra hills in the Lisbon district. It is famous for its pine trees, extravagant buildings, and the ruins of an ancient castle. Those visiting Lisbon cannot miss the opportunity to drop by Sintra and discover all its wonders, such as the Palácio Nacional da Pena, Sintra’s most famous postcard.

But there are many other places to visit, such as the National Palace of Sintra, the Regaleira Palace, and the Palace of Monserrate.

A must-see vantage point is Azenhas do Mar, from which you can see Sintra’s spectacular coastline stretching out into the Atlantic Ocean.

At Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point on the European continent, about 150 meters above sea level, you can enjoy a sublime view of the Serra de Sintra and the coast.

Parks such as Parque da Liberdade or Parque das Merendas are ideal for a family picnic.

The local cuisine is varied and delicious, with meat dishes and delicacies of fish, seafood and shellfish. Here you can enjoy an excellent sea bass or sea bream, unforgettable octopus or simply savor mussels and barnacles.

Let’s not forget the famous desserts, such as Sintra’s “travesseiros” and “queijadinhas,” with the Piriquita pastry shop as the undisputed star.

For those who love nightlife, bars and pubs with lively and welcoming atmospheres can be found in the region.

In addition to the sunshine and beautiful beaches of fine golden sand, which offer excellent conditions for water sports such as surfing, the cliffs are ideal for paragliders.

Fishing, surfing, and bodyboarding are also popular activities along Sintra’s coast.

Tour Plan

1
Day 1-Arrival day
Our journey begins with a transfer from Lisbon to the Serra de Sintra. Our hotel will be a lovely and comfortable host house, where our hikers will spend the night for the next 4 days.

2
Day 2- The Unexpected Gardens
This excursion will take you to visit two wonderful gardens and their monuments.  “Capuchos”: probably the most important testimony of the Sintra primeval forest, preserved by the brotherhood of Franciscan friars and their austere monument carved in stone. Discover its secrets and mysteries, where it is still said that "those who wish to penetrate the mystery of the convent must first die."  "Monserrate": one of the most beautiful creations of the romantic landscape, in addition to its splendid palace, is one of the most famous and exotic "Victorian" gardens in Europe. Before picnicking in the gardens of "Monserrate," we will traverse a pleasant and peaceful wooded trail of about 7 km that connects these two wonderful gardens and monuments. The return journey, although shorter, is no less beautiful, with the warm light of the end of the day penetrating the forest canopy and where you will also enjoy the forest surrounding the "Musketeers' Lagoon" reflected in its calm waters. Optional Experience: The return will be shorter because there will be one last experience awaiting us, a visit to one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal, created in the year 1752 by Sebastião Melo, Marquis of Pombal, a kind of Prime Minister and very powerful man who became famous for being the one responsible for the reconstruction of Lisbon after the terrible earthquake of 1755. This high-quality fortified wine was born in the certified wine region of Carcavelos, and it is here that we will visit the vineyards and two wineries. At the end, inside the original winery, a beautiful 19th-century building commissioned by the Marquis of Pombal, we will taste 3 of these fine wines. Type: Walking tour  Duration: Approximately 6 hours  Start: 9:30 am  Activity not suitable for children under 8 years old  Difficulty:   Easy (Easy) Unexpected Gardens, Capuchos-Monserrate 2

Day 3 – Serra of Secular Mysteries
Come with us to discover the more mystical and occult side of the Sierra de Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, considered the most beautiful and mystical of Portugal's hothouse. On this tour, we will meet its people and their customs. We will take you to the highest points of the Sierra, such as the sanctuary of "Peninha," and you will marvel at the endless views. Discover its secrets and mysteries. We will meet the most typical village of Sintra, whose origins date back to the 16th century, the village of the "Holy Spirit." Known for its countless fountains and streams, here we will have our lunch in a rural tavern where we can enjoy the local cuisine. After the meal, passing along some horse-breeding farms, we will again enter a forested corridor toward the "Capuchos" convent, where we will end our hike. Type: Hiking  Duration: Approximately 6 hours  Start: 09:00 am  Activity not suitable for children under 12 years old Difficulty:   Moderate (Moderate) Sintra, Sierra of Secular Mysteries

Day 4- “Where the Land Ends and the Sea Begins”
Our excursion begins at the westernmost point of the European continent, Cape da Roca, where "the land ends and the sea begins." This ancient fishing trail guides us to discover the unspoiled beauty of Ursa Beach, considered by the Michelin Guide to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. We will see this beach from above.  Continuing along majestic cliffs embraced by the imposing Atlantic Ocean, we will approach the Fojo, a natural well that connects to the sea and where the more daring can look 90 meters deep to see if the Romans were right in believing that at the bottom was Triton playing music in a shell.  Next, the beautiful beach of Adraga, considered one of the 20 best beaches in Europe by the Sunday Times, will be our next stop. From here we will head to another beautiful beach, our final destination. However, first we will have the opportunity to go back in time, about 130 million years, to see dinosaur footprints, made in the Lower Cretaceous period.  Optional Experience: The day will end at Europe's westernmost vineyard. This local farm, built in the 18th century, is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sierra de Sintra. Its wines stand out for their aging potential, character and complexity. After visiting the vineyards and winery, we will have a wine tasting where we will try some of Portugal's most enigmatic fine wines.  Due to the proximity of the sea, these wines have intense saline notes, as well as being very fragrant, fresh and balanced.  Note: If you choose the wine experience, you will need to bring your own picnic, which we will do on the beach or inside the beautiful Sintra forest.  Start: 10 a.m.  Duration of the excursion: Approximately 4 hours  Duration of the wine experience: Approximately 1 hour  Activity not suitable for children under 12 years old  Difficulty: Western Europe Beaches (Moderate) Western Europe Beaches
