Tour Plan

Day 1 - Arrival in Funchal

Arrive in Madeira and a private transfer will pick you up at the airport to take you to your hotel in Funchal.

Day 2 - Full day Porto Moniz

Pick up at the hotel. Come with us to visit western Madeira and experience an amazing journey. First, we will take you to Cabo Girão, famous for being one of the highest cliffs in the world, with an imperious height of 580 m. above the Atlantic Ocean. If you are brave enough to climb the glass viewing platform, the magnificent views below your feet will captivate you. There is a fee for access to the viewpoint on site, so we will do it by car to the Encumeada Pass. The scenery is beautiful! In the north of the island, stroll down the charming street of São Vicente and admire the beautiful 17th-century church. Then marvel at the imposing cliffs and waterfalls on the road to Porto Moniz, with incredible natural pools that are 6,500 years old (time for free lunch and swimming opportunities). We will return to Funchal through the mountains, crossing the plains of Paolo da Serra. We will make our last stop in the beautiful fishing village of Câmara de Lupi to see what inspired Winston Churchill to paint there.

Day 3 - Half day Curral das Freiras

Pick up at the hotel. We will start our walk to the beautiful viewpoint of Pico dos Barcelos. From here there are incredible views of the entire city of Funchal, including the bay and the mountains. Next, we will take you to Eira do Serrado, with its spectacular and dramatic views. Once at the top, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the "Vale das Freiras" and the surrounding Massif Central. Our next stop will be the parish of Curral das Freiras (Valley of the Nuns), considered the most isolated village on the island. Chestnuts are one of the most important fruit crops grown here and used by locals in the preparation of many regional specialties. Do not miss the opportunity to taste local specialties.

Day 4 - Relax

Day at your leisure.

Day 5 - Half day Monte e Botanical Garden

Pick up at the hotel. On this tour we will visit the parish of Monte. Monte is home to Largo da Fonte, the municipal gardens and the old train station that served Monte on the route from downtown Funchal to Terreiro do Luta. This parish also houses the church of Nossa Senhora do Monte, patron saint of Madeira Island, and is also the starting point of the traditional basket carriages to Livramento (descent not included). Then it's off to the Botanical Garden. This garden is composed of different botanical species and more than 2,500 plants from all continents that coexist in perfect harmony. (entrance to the garden included).

Day 6 – Full day Santana

Pick up at the hotel. Discover with us the beauty of the eastern part of Madeira. Our first stop will be Pico do Arieiro (1818 m.), a must-see. The view of the wild volcanic peaks is striking. Our next stop will be in Ribeiro Frio Natural Park and will allow you to travel back in time 1.8 million years by walking through the fascinating Laurissilva Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will stop in Faial to enjoy fabulous views of the coast and later, in Santana, you will see some of Madeira's oldest houses, the famous traditional thatched huts. After free time for lunch, we will pass the enchanting views of Portela, overlooking the village of Porto da Cruz and the famous Pedra da Águia. Next, we will head to Ponta de São Lourenço to see the geology that makes this landscape so unique. You will see fantastic colored rocks sinking into the sea and the nearby islands of Porto Santo and Desertas. Finally, we will visit the historic town of Machico, whose discovery by the Portuguese in the 15th century began the Age of Exploration and Discovery of the New World.

Day 7 – Relax

Day at your leisure.

Day 8 – Farewell day

Today is the day to depart and say goodbye to Portugal in hopes of returning soon to continue discovering all it has to offer. A private transfer will pick you up at your hotel to take you to the airport in Funchal.
